Fire Erupts at Dallas Cowboys Training Camp Hotel in Oxnard, California; Players Escape Injury

Dallas Cowboys players avoided injuries on Tuesday when a fire broke out at their hotel in Oxnard, California, where the team is currently wrapping up training camp.

Emergency crews responded to the River Ridge Residence Inn when a fire was started in an unoccupied guest room.

Players and coaches were not present at the time of the fire because they were preparing for a walk-through following a two-hour practice.

‘There was a fire emergency in one of the guest rooms this afternoon at the team’s hotel in Oxnard, Calif.,’ the Cowboys said in a statement. ‘The emergency was contained to one room, that was empty at the time, and there were no injuries.

‘The Dallas Cowboys thank the Oxnard Fire Department and Oxnard Police Department for their quick response and reaction to the situation.’

The hotel is not currently open to the general public.

The Cowboys have only one more padded practice in Oxnard, where the team has held training camp for the last two decades.

Previously the facility in Oxnard was used by the Los Angeles Raiders in the 1980s and 90s.

The team ends its preseason against the Los Angeles Charges on Saturday before returning to the Dallas area, where the Cowboys will hold an open practice on Tuesday night.

Oxnard fire department spokespeople did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment.

The Cowboys open their season in Cleveland against the Browns on September 8. Their home debut will take place the following Sunday when the New Orleans Saints pay a visit.
